(Jakarta) Lou Jie, Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hou Xiaodong, Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of Jinghai District Committee of Tianjin, and Li Maojin, Executive Member of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, visited Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 4:30 pm. They were warmly welcomed by Chairman Zhang Jinxiong, Vice Chairmen Xue Tianzeng, Lian Jiehao, and Chen Xin, Honorary Chairman Xu Jinxiang, and Vice Chairmen Shang Jiaxuan, Xue Jingyong, and Xu Changkuan.
Chairman Zhang Jinxiong stated that Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic nation and a crossroads connecting Asia and Oceania, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, controlling vital global trade routes such as the Strait of Malacca. In recent years, the Indonesian government has vigorously promoted infrastructure construction, digital economy transformation, and industrialization, continuously improving the business environment and actively attracting domestic and foreign investment. Indonesia's GDP growth rate reached 5.12% in the second quarter of this year, driven by investment and consumption, demonstrating strong economic resilience.
In the first half of this year, Indonesia attracted approximately US$57.4 billion in domestic and foreign investment, with foreign direct investment reaching US$26.34 billion, accounting for 45.9% of the total. Investment from mainland China and Hong Kong totaled US$8.2 billion, second only to Singapore's US$8.8 billion, making them Indonesia's second-largest source of foreign investment.
Zhang Jinxiong pointed out that we are very pleased to see that Chinese enterprises have achieved win-win results in their investments and businesses in Indonesia: Chinese enterprises have gained broader markets and development opportunities, while Indonesia has also benefited from capital injection, technology transfer, and increased employment opportunities.
The investment of Tianjin Dexin Steel Group in Indonesia is a model of win-win cooperation between the two sides, not only promoting the development of the local steel industry but also injecting new impetus into Indonesia's industrialization process.
In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between Indonesia and China has continued to deepen. China has consistently been Indonesia's largest trading partner and one of its most important sources of investment. Last year, bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$147.8 billion, and mainland China and Hong Kong's total investment in Indonesia reached US$16.3 billion, second only to Singapore.
Zhang Jinxiong further stated that Tianjin, as a major economic hub and port city in northern China, possesses a strong industrial base, advanced technological capabilities, and an open business environment. It holds significant advantages, particularly in the steel, equipment manufacturing, and port logistics sectors, which align perfectly with Indonesia's development needs.
The recent successful Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Tianjin showcased Tianjin's image as an international metropolis and its open and inclusive spirit of cooperation to the world. We believe this will further promote Tianjin's exchanges and cooperation with the world, including with Indonesia. We sincerely welcome friends from Tianjin to visit Indonesia frequently, explore, and experience the unique charm of the "Land of a Thousand Islands."
Zhang Jinxiong stated that Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association will, as always, provide necessary support and assistance to the Tianjin Municipal Government, the Federation of Industry and Commerce, and business communities in their exchanges and cooperation in Indonesia, promoting common prosperity for both regions. Finally, he wished Chairman Lou and all guests a successful and fruitful trip to Indonesia!
Lou Jie, Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce, pointed out that the purpose of this delegation's visit was to understand Indonesia's business environment, promote cooperation between enterprises, explore local investment and cooperation opportunities, and further understand the latest developments in trade, investment, and industry. He hoped that through this exchange with Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, cooperation between the two sides in various fields could be further promoted in the future, and sincerely invited everyone to take some time to visit Tianjin for sightseeing and inspection.
