(Jakarta) The President of the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Dato Wu Yiping, Vice President Dato Lai Junjie, General Treasurer Dato Kong Linglong, Deputy Secretary-General Lawyer Cai Wenzhou, Deputy General Treasurer Yan Linmao, Central Director Dato Sri Wang Huiyin, Central Director and Youth Business Group Chief Li Yongliang and other directors visited Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association at 4 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025, and were warmly welcomed by General Chairman Zhang Jinxiong, Secretary-General Zhou Weiliang, Supervisory Committee Member Wang Zhenkun, Vice Chairman Chen Xin, Xue Tianzeng, Treasurer Lin Wenxian, Executive Director of the Youth Department Yao Hanbin and other directors.
General Chairman Zhang Jinxiong said that first of all, on behalf of Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, he would like to express the warmest welcome and sincere greetings to President Wu and everyone for their arrival!
Zhang Jinxiong said that Indonesia and Malaysia are connected by blood, culture, and have a solid foundation for economic and trade cooperation. Malaysia is not only an important trading partner of Indonesia, but also the third largest source of foreign investment in Indonesia, second only to Singapore and China. Last year, Malaysia's direct investment in Indonesia was about US$4.2 billion, focusing on manufacturing, mining, infrastructure and other fields.
As the world's fourth most populous country, Indonesia currently has a population of 280 million, accounting for about 40% of the total population of ASEAN. Indonesia's mineral resources are not only of full variety but also of large reserves. Nickel reserves are the world's largest, and reserves of gold, silver, copper, iron, tin and other resources are also among the best in the world. Last year, Indonesia's GDP totaled about US$1.4 trillion, and its per capita GDP was about US$4,960. In the first quarter of this year, affected by global trade, GDP growth was 4.87%, but economic resilience remained prominent, and household consumption contributed more than 50% to GDP, far exceeding investment and exports.
Zhang Jinxiong further pointed out that in recent years, the Indonesian government has continued to optimize the business environment to attract foreign investment. The Comprehensive Employment Law promulgated in 2020 simplifies the investment approval process and further expands the scope of foreign investment in 2024, providing tax exemptions and land concessions for key industries such as digital economy, green energy, and infrastructure. We believe that Indonesia's huge consumer market, resource endowment and policy dividends will provide broad opportunities and platforms for international investors including Malaysia.
The Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce has a long history and a well-established system. It is an outstanding representative of the Malaysian business community. It has not only made remarkable achievements in the business field, but also has many aspects such as organizational culture and cultivating young Chinese businessmen, which are worthy of learning and reference by our Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association.
Zhang Jinxiong said that he sincerely hopes that the two sides can take this visit as an opportunity to pave the way for enterprises in Indonesia and Malaysia, jointly explore business opportunities, and contribute the strength of Chinese businessmen to the construction of the ASEAN Community! Finally, I wish President Wu and the delegation a complete success in this trip to Indonesia!
President Wu Yiping pointed out that first of all, on behalf of the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, I would like to extend my most sincere greetings to Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, and thank you for your enthusiasm today. In 2025, Malaysia officially served as the rotating chair of ASEAN with the theme of "inclusiveness and sustainability". To this end, ACCCIM also fully supports the Malaysian government's ASEAN development strategy, and proactively plans and promotes a series of strategic and influential activities to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with enterprises in ASEAN countries.
This year, we have especially promoted the visit itinerary to ASEAN countries. From Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and now Indonesia, we have visited many core countries in ASEAN. This is not only a geographical leap, but also an in-depth extension of the regional cooperation network, marking that the connection between ACCCIM and ASEAN partners has entered a new stage of wider and deeper development.
Wu Yiping said that as early as 2000, our two associations had established a cooperative relationship and signed the first memorandum of understanding, laying the foundation for friendly exchanges and mutual assistance and cooperation between the two sides. Today, ACCCIM and Indonesia Chinese Entrepreneur Association signed a memorandum of understanding again, which is not only a deepening of the friendly relations between the two associations for many years, but also a symbol of our firm determination to go with the trend and move forward hand in hand in the current regional integration trend. This memorandum will also build a solid platform for the two sides to cooperate in a wider range of fields in the future, help enterprises to achieve complementary advantages and win-win cooperation in more fields, and contribute more to promoting regional economic prosperity.
Wu Yiping also shared three key events to be held this year. The first is the 14th Young Entrepreneurs Conference and Model Award held by the ACCCIM Young Entrepreneurs Association from August 15 to 16. It is expected that 1,000 young entrepreneurs will participate in the event. In addition, the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Conference will be held on September 12, focusing on how AI technology can be applied in different industries to assist enterprises in digital transformation and enhance competitiveness.
Wu Yiping pointed out that in October this year, we will hold the 2025 ASEAN Chinese Business Elite Summit, which will bring together business leaders, government officials, and industry experts from ASEAN countries to become a high-end exchange platform for regional business cooperation in ASEAN. The main purpose of the event is to commend outstanding entrepreneurs from ASEAN countries who have made outstanding contributions, especially those who have made outstanding achievements and far-reaching influence in promoting regional economic development, social contributions and corporate sustainable development.
Wu Yiping said that Malaysia is willing to work hand in hand with Indonesia and all ASEAN countries to deepen cooperation, overcome challenges, and jointly achieve regional peace, prosperity and progress. Let us take practical actions to promote ASEAN to become the most dynamic, competitive and cohesive regional community in the world. The signing of the memorandum today not only marks a new starting point for cooperation, but also lays a solid foundation for the two sides to jointly explore regional markets and create prosperity and development in the future.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely invite entrepreneurs from Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association to take time to visit Malaysia and actively participate in all the upcoming ASEAN theme activities to jointly explore more business opportunities and cooperation space. Let us continue to strengthen our ties and seize the unlimited opportunities for ASEAN development.
