Indonesia is a country full of vitality and opportunities. With a total population of 280 million, it is the fourth most populous country in the world and the largest economy in ASEAN. Indonesia's GDP growth rate has remained above 5% for many years. Last year, its total GDP was approximately US$1.37 trillion, accounting for 40% of the total economy of ASEAN, and its per capita GDP was close to US$5,000. From January to September this year, Indonesia's economic growth rate reached 5.03%, among which household consumption is an important pillar of Indonesia's economic growth.
Zhang Jinxiong said that it is well known that Indonesia is a resource-rich country with the world's largest nickel reserves. It is also very rich in commodities such as oil, natural gas, and coal, which provides a sufficient and stable energy foundation for Indonesia's economic development. At the same time, Indonesia is also one of the world's largest producers of palm oil, rubber and coffee. In recent years, the Indonesian government has actively promoted the transformation of its economic structure, vigorously developed manufacturing, tourism and the digital economy, promoted the "mineral downstream policy", and is committed to making Indonesia an important link in the global supply chain.
In addition, the Indonesian government is also committed to improving the business environment, providing "one-stop" services, and has introduced a series of preferential policies to attract foreign investment, including the "Comprehensive Employment Law" issued by the government in 2020, which simplifies the registration process and opens up more investment areas to foreign investment. In terms of taxation, a number of special economic zones have been established to provide tax exemptions for specific industries and encourage foreign investment to participate in Indonesia's economic construction, especially in key areas such as agriculture, manufacturing, and green energy.
Zhang Jinxiong pointed out that Indonesia and China are both developing populous countries with similar development stages, highly compatible concepts, and similar cultural traditions. Under the "Belt and Road" initiative, the two countries have achieved fruitful results in major projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and industrial park construction. China has been Indonesia's largest trading partner for 11 consecutive years. In 2023, the total bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached US$139.4 billion, and China's direct investment in Indonesia reached US$13.9 billion (including US$7.4 billion from mainland China and US$6.5 billion from Hong Kong), continuing to rank among the top three sources of foreign investment in Indonesia for eight consecutive years.
Shandong Linyi (Yi), as an important trade and logistics center and manufacturing base in China, has a good industrial foundation. Shandong Province, as a strong agricultural province and a major economic province in China, has very broad prospects for cooperation with Indonesia in many fields such as agriculture, manufacturing, trade and logistics! We very much welcome the Linyi Municipal Government and entrepreneurs to visit Indonesia and invest and build factories in Indonesia.
Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association will continue to play the role of the chamber of commerce as a platform, provide necessary support and assistance for the cooperation between the two companies, and make positive contributions to the prosperity of the economies of Indonesia and Linyi. Deputy Mayor Sun Deshi pointed out that he thanked Zhang Jinxiong, Chairman of Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, and all the directors for their warm hospitality. First of all, I would like to briefly introduce the situation of Linyi City. Linyi City is located between Beijing and Shanghai. Linyi City covers an area of 17,200 square kilometers, has a permanent population of 11 million, and a floating population of about 800,000 per day. In the field of economy and trade, from January to October 2024, the trade volume between Linyi and Indonesia reached 3.55 billion yuan. The main import of laterite nickel ore from Indonesia was then re-exported to Indonesia. In addition, some Linyi enterprises have set up factories in Indonesia, mainly producing plywood. Linyi and Indonesia also have frequent exchanges in tourism, culture, economy and trade.
Sun Deshi pointed out that our visit to Indonesia this time was mainly to participate in the commodity fair held in Surabaya on January 10. There were more than 100 Linyi enterprises participating in this fair, and the products exhibited included daily necessities, hardware, furniture, clothing, stationery, machinery and other products. It is hoped that through this fair, the economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Linyi and Surabaya and other regions can be further strengthened, including the establishment of industrial parks on both sides.
